Grosso applauds tentative new teacher contract

Washington, D.C. – Councilmember David Grosso (I-At Large), chairperson of the Committee on Education, released the following statement on the announcement of a tentative contract between the Washington Teachers’ Union and D.C. Public Schools:

“Well-supported, fairly compensated teachers in the classroom are vital to putting our students in the best position to succeed.  I’m glad that the Washington Teachers’ Union and D.C. Public Schools have reached a tentative agreement on a contract that invests in our city's educators and maintains the positive momentum at DCPS. I congratulate Mayor Bowser, Chancellor Wilson, and WTU President Elizabeth Davis for working collaboratively to reach this deal.

“It has been a long process and I know everyone involved is ready to close this chapter. With a new contract in place, I look forward to working with our teachers, school leaders, my colleagues, and the entire education community to identify additional ways we can support our teachers’ in educating the students of the District of Columbia.”
